Sophora 苦参

Sophora or ku shen (lat. Sophora flavescens) is a plant from family
Leguminosae. Dried roots of this plant are used in TCM.

Taste, Characteristic, and Meridian

Bitter, cold in nature. Returns to the heart, liver, stomach, large intestine and bladder meridians.

Value in Traditional Chinese Medicine
 

Clears heat and dries dampness, kills parasites, induces diuresis.
It is used in treating pyretic dysentery, blood in stool, jaundice, anuria, multicoloured leukorrhagia, swelling and itching of reproductive organs,
eczema, skin itch, scabies and leprosy, and as an external treatment for trichomonas vaginitis.
