Turmeric (lat. Curcuma kwangsiensis) is a plant from family Zingiberaceae. The rhizomes of this plant are used in TCM.

Taste, Characteristic, and Meridian

Pungent, bitter, warm by nature. Returns to the liver
and spleen meridians.

Value in Traditional Chinese Medicine
 

Promotes circulation of qi, strongly promotes circulation blood, removes qi stagnation and relieves pain. It is used in treating heart pains, food retention in the stomach,
epigastric distension and pain, amenorrhea due to stagnation of blood, dysmenorrhea, lumps in the abdomen, bruises and traumatic injuries.
