Chinese skullcap (lat. Scutellaria baicalensis) is a plant of the family Labiatae. Its dried roots
are used in TCM.
Taste, Characteristic, and Meridian
Bitter, cold in nature. Returns to the lung, gallbladder, spleen, large intestine and small intestine meridians.
Value in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Clears heat and dries dampness, removes fire and has a detoxicating effect,
stops bleeding and tranquilizes the fetus.
It is used in treating dampness and summer fever, chest pressure and vomiting, damp-heat lumps and abdomen fullness, diarrhea, jaundice, cough caused by heat in the lungs, high fever and thirst, blood-heat and vomiting, abscesses, and fetal irritability.
