Chinese goldthread (lat. Coptis chinensis) is a plant from family Ranunculaceae. The dried
rhizomes of Coptis chinensis are used in TCM.
Taste, Characteristic, and Meridian
Bitter, cold in nature. Returns to the heart, spleen,
stomach, liver, gallbladder and large intestine meridians.
Value in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Clears heat and dries dampness, removes fire and has a detoxicating effect.
Dampness-heat, lumps and fullness in the abdomen, vomiting and acid regurgitation, diarrhea,
jaundice, high fever and dizziness, excessive fire in the heart, restlessness and insomnia, palpitation, epistaxis, redness of the eyes, toothache, diabetes, abscesses. It’s also used for
external treatment of eczema, rash and pus in ear canals.
