Peony root bark 牡丹皮
Peony (Paeonia suffruticosa) is a plant from family Ranunculaceae. The dried root bark of this plant is used in TCM.

Bitter, pungent, slightly cold. Returns to the heart, liver and kidney meridians.
Value in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Clears heat and cools blood, promotes blood circulation and removes blood stasis. Used for treating heat entering the ‘ying’ qi and blood, epidemic heat syndrome and red skin spots, epistaxis, night fever, morning cold, absence of sweating, hectic fever due to yin-deficiency, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, traumatic injuries, abscesses.
